Hanks was reunited with Ron Howard in his next roleas the commander and astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995). Film critics generally praised the film as well as the performances of the entire ensemble, which included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Kathleen Quinlan. The film received nominations for the Academy Awards nine times and won two. Hanks later played Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated animated film Toy Story (1995). His directorial debut came a year later with the film You Do! (1996) which follows the rise and fall of a popular 1960s group and also a part of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel described his performance as "charming" and most reviewers agreed with the fact that Hanks' portrayal has earned him a place among the finest romantic comedy actors of the time.
